Getting Started

Welcome to the eKAVACH user manual. This manual was written exclusively for use with eKavach Parent and Child applications. This manual and the eKavach applications described in it are copyrighted, with all rights reserved. The Applications are owned by Certus Technologies Pvt Ltd, and its structure, organization and code are trademarks of Certus Technologies Pvt Ltd. The Applications are protected by trademark and Copyright Law. This manual and the eKavach Applications may not be copied, except as otherwise provided in your application license or as expressly permitted in writing.

eKAVACH is India’s most comprehensive digital assurance for your kids online. eKAVACH is a comprehensive solution provides you with the required amount of information, monitoring ability and lets you apply your desired boundaries to proactively secure your loved ones in the online world. eKAVACH provides parents a peace of mind while giving children needed freedom. We aim to help you protect your children in the digital world and at the same time encourage trust and respecting privacy. eKAVACH is Digital Parenting application designed for today’s parents.

eKAVACH is currently available for use across Apple and Android platforms.

  • eKAVACH is currently compatible with Android versions 3.0 and above
  • eKAVACH is currently compatible for Apple devices on iOS version 5.1.1 and above
To help you check the version of yours and your child’s Android device

Settings > About Phone/Device > Software Information > Android Version.
If your version of Android is below 3.0, you may be able to update it by choosing "Software Updates" (often also in the "About Phone/Device" section > Software Update), then selecting "Check Now" to force the device to immediately check for updates.

No hardware, no complicated setup—just a simple one time sign on that gives you the info you need at a glance in real time in the palm of your hand. Whether your kids tablet, or mobile phone. eKAVACH sets healthy usage limits, blocks objectionable and profane contents, helps manage application usage, Internet usage and keep your kids safe.

The eKAVACH app for parent and child is available in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Just search for eKAVACH and click install. The Android or iOS web enabled Smartphone or device will do the rest.

Step 1: Download eKavach Parent Application from App Store on the parent Phone And Install.
Step 2: Create Family account and register parent.
Step 3: Download eKAVACH Child application on child device and install.
Step 4: Log in with Family account credentials, Register Child and activate eKavach protection.
Step 5: Review default parameter settings and customize to suit your child.

eKAVACH Parent Application: Once the app is downloaded on the parent’s phone, click on the icon from your home screen to open the app and then click “Sign Up” to create your eKAVACH family account.

Information to be provided for Parent On boarding

  • Avatar/Image set for your profile
  • Enter Name of the Parent
  • Enter email address of the parent
  • Phone Number of the parent
  • DOB of the Parent

Parent and child on boarding

Once you have completed the registration process, an account activation email would be sent to your registered email ID. Activate your account by clicking on the Account Activation link.

After activating your account you can login to your eKAVACH Parent application using your eKAVACH user name and Password. Once you are logged in, you will be asked to add your child.

eKAVACH Child Application: Moving to the child’s device, download eKAVACH Child application from Google play or the iTunes App Store. Select Log In. Log In to your eKAVACH account using your registered e-mail ID and password. (This is just for registering child, It won’t get saved on the child’s device).

Subsequent to successful log-in – enter requested child details and complete child adding process. Please ensure you update accurate date of birth as this will enable eKAVACH provide age appropriate web category settings.

Information to be provided for Child On boarding

  • Login with family account credentials
  • Register child
  • Avatar/Image set.
  • Enter Name of the Child
  • Enter gender of the Child
  • Phone Number of the Child
  • DOB of the Child

Wi-Fi Settings

On the Android, eKAVACH Child Application requires proxy settings and port number settings. It sets proxy and port number automatically but if not you can set them following few simple steps.

You can navigate to:

Settings > Connection (Or select WIFI directly if option is there) > Turn on WIFI > long press the connected WIFI > Modify Network Settings > Select Show Advance Options > Set Proxy Settings to “localhost” > Set Port to “9008” > Save Settings and you are done.

2G/3G Settings

You can also set the Proxy settings and port number for 2G/3G by following simple steps. Go to Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Select Access Point > Set Proxy to “localhost” > set Port to “9008” > Exit and your settings are saved.

eKAVACH supports the most popular Search engines. Yahoo, Bing and Google. Using these three search applications, eKAVACH will deliver age safe search results and delivers search results that minimizes the possible of profane, adult and inappropriate content. This safety is for searches for web sites, pictures and videos. eKAVACH mandates the strictest Safe Search settings on most popular search engines namely Yahoo, Bing and Google.

Though, eKAVACH delivers Safe search for kids simply by using eKAVACH protection we recommend that you also enable safe search setting on individual applications like Google Search and YouTube. The process to setup the same in explained in relevant sections of the user manual.

eKAVACH integrates "Safe Search" options found in popular search engines such as Yahoo, Bing and Google. Any search on these applications will deliver safe results. This delivered by leveraging on the safe search algorithms of the above supported applications.

This means results to what your children search on any of the supported search engine is passed through special algorithms to ensure that the output is age appropriate. This internet safety feature enables better protection against pornographic images when doing an "image only" search.

In order to ensure complete safety for your children in the digital world, eKAVACH encourages you to enable Safe Search settings across some popular application.

The Android YouTube app allows you to access the Safe Search filtering in the settings menu where three levels of filtering can be applied to the search content.

Open the YouTube app
Tap the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen

  • Safe Search filtering
  • Select appropriate level of filtering

YouTube Safe search settings for browser:

  • Scroll to the bottom of any YouTube page and click the drop-down menu in the "Safety" section
  • Select the On or Off option to enable or disable this feature.
  • Please note : Enabling Safety Mode on YouTube will also enable Google Safe Search, which is a similar filter for Google Search.

You can also lock Safety Mode:

If you wish for Safety Mode to stay enabled on YouTube every time you visit the site, you must lock Safety Mode.

Sign in to your YouTube account.
Scroll to the bottom of any YouTube page and click the drop-down menu in the "Safety" section.
You will now have an additional option to lock this browser into Safety Mode.

In order to ensure complete safety for your children in the digital world, eKAVACH encourages you to enable Safe Search settings across some popular application.

Open the Google App:

Tap the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen

  • Select Checkbox for Safe Search Filter

Internet Preferences:

eKAVACH provides you with a exhaustive set of pre-defined web categories that allowed and Blocked based on the age group of your child. In this section you would see three tabs.

  • Recently Browsed
  • Blocked
  • Allowed categories

You may choose to change any of the predefined settings and the same will take effect on your child’s device within minutes. (The child’s device should be connected to the internet for the settings to take effect.)

In the parent application > go to preferences > internet preferences > you will see the last 10 browsed Internet categories that were surfed by the child and it will also show the status of the category(blocked/allowed). You can change settings as per your preferences for the categories. Even from blocked or allowed tab you can change your preferences for category.

Internet usage time setting
In this section you can set Internet usage timings for your child. These settings can be set by the day of the week. By setting a specific start time and end time, you will be able to manage the online time of your child.

Specific white listing and black listing of web sites
If you do not want to allow the category but a website of that category you want to allow you can add that website URL in white list or of a allowed category’s website you want to block you can add it to black list category.

In the Internet Dashboard section of the Parent Application, you can have a quick graphical overview of your child’s online activity. At he highest level it provide you (%) of Online activity that was permitted and that was blocked.

Further it provides a segregation between Search Activity and Browsing Activity. This is represented by a Bar Graph providing you details at a glance. In the next level the Dashboard provide you a list of Key Words that were searched (Permitted / Blocked).

Further down the Dashboard provides you with a graphical representation of Category wise segmentation of websites accessed. This is split into Allowed categories and Blocked categories for easy analysis and comparison.

The above statistics will help you understand the online behaviours of your child, likes, dislikes, current interests and augment online engagement. Example: If child has searched 50% for the specific professional sport you can know more about your child’s specific interest in a sport.

Application Preferences:

eKAVACH enables you to manage the applications your child device. IT provides you a complete inventory of all applications that re installed your child’s device. It further provide you the ability to remotely allow or block any application and to define usage time limits of for them.

Allowing and blocking of apps
Using your parent application> go to Preferences > Application Preferences > you will see the list of applications installed on a child device and it will also show the status of the application(blocked/allowed). You can change settings as per your preferences for the application/s.

Time definition for app usage
For the allowed application you can set the time limit to use that application. Example: If you want to allow Facebook application only after school hours and that too for 1 hour only you can set start and end time and block Facebook to represent this time window.

Please note when ever the child downloads a new application, it would be blocked by default. The parent would need to Allow the usage of the same using their parent application. The change would take effect within a few minutes

Inventory of Currently Loaded Applications:
In the Application Dashboard section of the Parent Application, you can have a overview of the applications that are installed on your child’s device.

Apps deleted and added for a seven day period:
It further provides you a list of applications that have been downloaded in the last 7 days and applications deleted in the same period. To allow, set usage timings or block any application, access the Application Preferences section.

Application Usage
Application Usage shows the total number of application installed on the child device, applications added and deleted in last 7 days.

Newly added or deleted applications after installing the eKAVACH will be informed to the parent by real time notification and will be available in the Notifications section of the eKAVACH application.

eKAVACH puts the ability to engage with your child in real-time. Based on your definition eKAVACH continuously monitors your child’s online activity. In the event of any breach eKAVACH sends real-time alerts in the form notifications to the parent.

How alerts are received by parents:
In the event of the;
Child attempting to access website that belongs to a blocked category
Child attempting to search for a blocked word (explicitly or as part of a sentence)
Child attempting to access the internet outside the defined time limits
Child downloads a new application
Child deletes an existing application
Child attempting to use an existing application outside the defined usage hours
Child switches of the device / disconnects internet access / restarts the device
Child tries to disable eKAVACH protection the device, a real-time alert would be sent to the parent.

This notification will be available on the notifications bar on your device and will also be available on the Notifications dashboard section of the parent application You may click on any notification in the dashboard to see the complete description of the alert.

Child Device Heart Beat monitoring
The Notifications dashboard is segregated into Urgent / Alerts /Information notifications.
Urgent Tab which receives the notifications of the hearbeat of the child device. Heartbeat is to inform that child’s device is reachable or not. If child device is out of reach parent is informed that heartbeat is missed and when it is again reachable it notifies the parent that the heartbeat has resumed. Also if child deactivates eKAVACH protection from the device it is notified to parent in the Urgent tab.
Alerts Tab displays notifications with regard to Internet access breaches and Application access breaches.
Info Tab displays notifications that are sent by eKAVACH admin to parents with regard to new products / services and subscription plans.

How to change parents device / child device?
If you are changing your parent device you can simply uninstall the parent application from the current device, install the application on the new device (which should be compatible for the application) and login with the same eKAVACH account credentials.

For any help please follow the eKAVACH Parent application Installation process.

To change your Child’s Device you have to follow the same install procedure on new device.

For deleting the application from the old device you first have follow following steps.

Go to Phone Settings > Security > Device Administration > Unmark the eKAVACH Child App and now you can uninstall the application

How to unregister parents device / child device?
Go to parent Device > Click on the Application > go to preferences > family preferences and then unregister the parent. Similarly To unregister the Child > Go to Parent Device > Open the Application > go to preferences > family preferences and then unregister the Child

You may also access your eKAVACH application on the web from anywhere. Just go to www.yourekavach.com and click on login. Login using your eKAVACH username and password to view the web dashboard
